Banking Strategy Institute, formerly the Department of Strategic Development Bank, was established in 2008 after the Government published the Decree 96/2008 / ND-CP on 26/8/2008. Primary function of Banking Strategy Institute is to define functions, powers, permissions and structure of the State Bank of Vietnam. Working as a vital part of the structure of the State Bank of Vietnam, Banking Strategy Institute also researches and constructs strategy development, plans banking development project; organizes banking scientific research and technological development to serve the nation management’s requirements of the State Bank including monetary and banking activities according to Government law.
The Banking Strategy Institute also helps ensure the strategy, plan, Industry project, and policy mechanisms related to the field of monetary. Furthermore, Banking activities are built from a strong theoretical foundation, indispensable, scientific and suitable for the practical foundation in Vietnam and the age tendency.
The Informatics Technology Department of the Bank is an organization under structure of State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) with responsibilities of consulting SBV’s Governor in determining strategies, programs for developing and applying IT in Banking industry; implementing and conducting effectively IT application systems of SBV; consulting SBV’s Governor in evaluating IT Projects of State-owned Commercial Banks; cooperating with related institutions to manage and implement IT and Banking Modernization Projects.
Leading in IT application in the banking community in Vietnam, from the foundation to present, ITDB has contributed actively in the overall achievements of banking industry, especially the excellent contribution in the comprehensive renovation course of banking activities that meets the need of further developments of national economy and integration process into the region as well as international. For its 33-year contribution, the informatics Technology Department of the Bank was awarded the second Labour Medal (1996) and the first Labour Medal (2001) by the State.
In April 2004, The Informatics Technology Department of the Bank together with its partners successfully organized the conference for assessing its three year compliance with the directive No 58/CT-TW of the Politburo for IT and the completion of World Bank sponsored project.
